About Online Compass.
A free, local-first direction tool built to be useful within seconds — no app, no account, and no stored readings.
Why it exists
Online Compass exists to answer one question — which way am I facing? — without making you download an app, create an account, or hand over your location.
It is built local-first. The heading is read from your device's sensors and processed in your browser. There is no database, no sensor upload, and no location history.
What it is
A free magnetic compass that runs on any modern phone or tablet with a compatible orientation sensor. Open the page, enable the compass, and read a live heading in degrees plus plain direction.
The reading comes from your hardware, not from an animation or a guessed number. If the sensor is unavailable or permission is denied, the page says so instead of showing a false 0°.
What it is not
It is not a replacement for dedicated navigation equipment. Browser compass accuracy depends on your phone's magnetometer, calibration, and nearby interference. It reports magnetic north, not true north, and must not be used for aviation, marine, survey, emergency, or other safety-critical navigation.
