Compass

Terms & Conditions.

Please read these terms before using Online Compass. By accessing the site you agree to them.

Last updated: August 23, 2026

The service

Online Compass is a free, browser-based magnetic direction tool. It reads orientation data from a compatible device and shows a heading in degrees and plain direction.

The core compass is free. It does not require an account, and it does not send or store your compass readings or coordinates in application code.

Intended use

The tool is meant for everyday, non-critical orientation — checking which way a room faces, understanding cardinal directions, or getting a rough bearing.

Not for safety-critical navigation

You must not rely on Online Compass for aviation, marine, survey, emergency, or any safety-critical navigation. Use dedicated calibrated equipment, verified maps, and an appropriate backup for decisions where a wrong heading could cause harm.

Accuracy

Results depend on your device's magnetometer, calibration, browser implementation, and nearby magnetic interference. The reading is magnetic north, not true north, and is not guaranteed to be exact.

Permissions

Your browser and operating system control Motion & Orientation and Location permissions. You can revoke them at any time through the site's permission settings.
